Fork In The Road

Chapter 20 – Web Master

I quit in April 2005, and started working on growing my business. Initially, I did it out of my condo, but eventually I moved to the house of my significant other (let’s call her Sig Other in the future for short. This keeping names out can get clumsy).

As I stated earlier, my ex-roommate had passed away, but I was still in touch with his wife, who was a realtor and she put my place on the market. I had a new residence as of 2006 and, in short order, sold my condo. We were kind of lucky in the timing, as the housing market was nearing its “bubble.” So I had some cash to sock away while I was still in the infancy of my business.

People who design websites are often called webmasters and I was just starting to build my domain (those in the know will easily get the double entendre there).

I was now living in a three-bedroom house, one of which became my office. Through friends and word of mouth, I eventually got pretty busy. It looked like this was going to work out! The designing part was pretty cool and there was writing involved and creating training materials for people who were not technically savvy. I started a monthly newsletter. Things were moving along.

Slowly but surely I gained new clients and new skills with time and experience. At one point, I had as many as 50 active clients, whose websites I was maintaining. Yay!
